Quad Lock Stem and Handlebar Bike Mount (Best Phone Mount Overall)

There is a high chance you have seen this bike phone mount already. It belongs to one of the most popular mounts on the market. And, quite frankly, to the best mounts ever.

Quad Lock Stem and Handlebar bike phone mount is very durable because it is made of high-quality materials so that you can use it for mountain bikes too.

It will hold your phone firmly. Just remember you have to buy a special Quad Lock case.

Quad Lock offers cases for major phone brands like Apple, Samsung, Google, Huawei. If you don’t find a case that fits your phone, feel free to use the universal adapter.

The downside of the adapter is that it has to be permanently attached to your phone. Both the case and the adapter are compatible with other Quad Lock mounts.

Of course, this mount will allow you to use your phone in portrait or landscape mode.

The mounting mechanism is compatible with 25-40mm diameter handlebars so that you can use it with the road, mountain, commuter, hybrid, and other types of bikes.

Bovon Universal Bike Phone Mount

Bovon is an established manufacturer specializing in phone holders for bicycles and motorcycles. They offer dozens of different bike phone mounts.

I chose this mount to this selection mainly due to its versatility and mounting mechanism, which is easy to install and will stay in position even on bumpy roads.

The silicone net is flexible enough to hold 4.5″-6.7″ smartphones. By the way, the screen size of 6.7″ is the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s exact screen size.

The holder allows 360° rotation, including landscape and portrait mode, so you can rotate the phone as you need.

Bovon mounting mechanism is compatible with 18-43mm handlebar diameters.

GUB Aluminium Bike Phone Mount (Best Durable Bike Phone Mount)

The GUB aluminum bike phone mount is the only aluminum bike holder in this selection. It is available in 2 colors – black and red.

It is popular not only among cyclists but among motorbikers as well. It is durable and reliable so that it will keep your phone secure even on unpaved and rougher roads.

If you decide on this bike phone mount, make sure you don’t over-tighten the screws. Use a torque wrench to tighten them according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

The mounting mechanism fits 31.8mm, 25.4mm, and 22.2mm diameter handlebars, so it is suitable for road, mountain, commuter, and other standard types of bicycles.

Use your smartphone with one of these apps for cyclists. The selection includes apps for route planning, weather forecast, first aid, trip tracking, and many more!

Caw Universal Bike Phone Mount

The Caw bike phone mount offers good value for money. One of its main advantages is an effortless installation to the handlebars of your bicycle.

Mount holds phone using rubber sling that can absorb road vibrations. It holds the phone firmly, so the mount is suitable even for bumpy roads.

Furthermore, the rubber’s shape won’t interfere with front cameras and sensors (this depends mainly on the type of phone you use).

The mount offers 360° rotation, so you can use it in portrait and landscape mode, depending on the app you want to use.

TIP: The mount may become loose after a few rides. If this happens, remove the cap and tighten the screw on the cradle.

Caw mounting mechanism is compatible with 12.7-43.2mm handlebar diameters. This means you can fit it to most types of commonly used handlebars.

Quad Lock Out Front Mount (Best Bike Phone Mount For Mountain Bike)

Quad Lock is one of the leaders when it comes to bike phone mounts. Their bike phone mounts are well design and made of high-quality materials, so you don’t have to worry about the safety of your smartphone.

Quad-Lock Out Front Mount is the best mount for mountain biking. It is strong, durable, and you can use it with smartphones of all sizes. The mounting mechanism is intuitive and easy to use.

The downside of this mount (and all Quad Lock mounts) is the higher price than other mounts in this selection. At the same time, you have to buy a case exactly for your phone type, so its use is limited.

TIP: If you don’t find a case compatible with your phone, you can use the Quad Lock universal adapter.

However, once you have a case, you can use it with all types of mounts from Quad Lock.

Quad Lock mounting mechanism is compatible with all types of commonly used handlebar diameters (35mm, 31.8mm, 25.4mm & 22mm).

Bovon Universal Bike Phone Mount

This bike mount from Bovon, the second from Bovon in this selection, differs from the previous one mainly by the silicone clip.

The silicon clip is narrower, but it has a different shape and interferes with the selfie camera and FaceID camera. Therefore, this mount is not suitable for iPhones.

Of course, you can turn the mount into landscape or portrait mode based on your needs or the application that you want to see on your screen.

The mount is easy to install, and thanks to rubber, it provides a strong grip, so you don’t have to adjust it as often as other phone mounts.

However, this type of mount is more suitable for paved roads because its plastic parts may break in rough terrain.

Bovon mounting mechanism is compatible with 18-43mm handlebar diameters. This means you can fit it to most types of commonly used handlebars.

Roam Universal Bike Phone Mount (Best Phone Mount for iPhone)

I’ve chosen this Roam phone mount as the best for an iPhone because the silicon net does not interfere with the FaceID camera. This means you can still unlock your iPhone while it is attached to the phone mount.

The Roam mount is compatible with many phones, including the iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy, etc.

You can also rotate the screen so your phone will be usable in portrait or landscape mode.

The main downside of this phone mount is that you won’t see the edges of your screen because the silicone net is large and that the mounting mechanism is pretty bulky.

Roam mount fits 22.2 to 44.5mm diameter handlebars. So it is no problem to fit it with all commonly-used handlebars, including motorbike handlebars.

The Opamoo stem bag is attached to your bike with velcro straps that make the installation very easy. The reflective strips around the bag will increase your visibility at night.

The stem bag is available in 2 colors – black and grey. It offers decent storage space – you will fit in it small items like a spare tube, tool kit, glasses, etc.

Thanks to the transparent plastic layer, you can control your phone. It also does not interfere with any front cameras and sensors, so you will be able to use FaceID on your iPhone or face unlock on Android devices.

The bag has a hole for headphones or a USB cable. Yet, I recommend avoiding charging your phone while it is in the case and direct sunshine because it may cause overheating.

Whale Fall Handlebar Bag

  • Waterproof design
  • Waterproof cover included
  • Very compact
  • Easy to detach from the mount
  • For phones with up to 6.5″ screen

  • Charging your phone in the case may cause overheating

The Whale Fall Handlebar bag is one of the most compact handlebar bags on the market. You can store the essentials in it like money, credit card, keys, etc. Take the bag with you when needed by detaching it from the mount.

Thanks to the sun visor, you will be able to see small icons on the top of your screen, even in direct sunshine. This is good for monitoring your battery level during your cycling trip.

The pocket for up to 6.5″ screen smartphone is completely waterproof, so you don’t have to be afraid of the rain, snow, or sweat leaking inside and damaging your phone.

The main downside of the Whale bag is its compactness. It does not offer as much storage space as other bags in this selection.

Opamoo Frame Bag

q? encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B07PB93ZQJ&Format= SL400 &ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=US&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=cyclistshub 20&language=en US

  • Sun visor
  • Waterproof design
  • Available in black and grey color
  • A hole for headphones or a USB cable
  • For phones with up to 6.5″ screen
  • A good storage space

  • Charging your phone in the case may cause overheating
  • Relatively bulky

The Opamoo is an established manufacturer of bike accessories. Its frame bags are trendy because they meet exactly what you expect from them.

This model provides you with good storage space for essentials such as keys, money, sticks, etc. At the same time, it holds well on the bike thanks to velcro straps.

And most importantly, you can place up to a 6.5″ smartphone screen in it. You can use it for navigation during your bike trip, for example.

The bag is completely waterproof to avoid any damage to your phone or bag contents. There is also a hole for headphones or a USB cable. Yet, I don’t recommend charging the phone in direct sunlight because it may overheat.

My Verdict

After comparing the pros and cons of various bike mounts and holders available on the market, I believe the Quad Lock Stem and Handlebar bike mount is the best choice.

Yes, it is a few times more expensive than other options, but it is 100% reliable. It won’t break in rough terrain and keep your phone safe.

I think it is better to spend a few dozens more dollars on a high-quality bike mount than several hundreds of dollars for screen repair or even a new phone. Do you agree?

Yet, it doesn’t mean that the other bike phone mounts in this selection are bad. The truth is that they are all capable of holding your phone safely. Some of them are just suitable for different types of terrain like paved roads and casual commuting.

The Quad Lock can do its work even in rough terrain with ease.

Before You Buy Your Bike Phone Mount

The most important thing you should consider before buying a bike phone mount is in which terrain you will ride your bike. Most bike phone mounts on the market are safe enough for holding your phone if you commute to or from work in a city or if you ride on tarmac and paved roads.

If you are a mountain biker who enjoys downhills and rough terrain, you should not be afraid to invest more into a more reliable bike phone mount. After all, it will hold a smartphone worth several hundreds of dollars.

So, feel free to spend a few dozens more bucks. You will see it pays off compared to replacing a broken screen or a whole smartphone. More expensive phone mounts are more reliable and don’t need to be adjusted as often.

Basic Types of Bike Phone Mounts and Holders

There are 3 basic types of phone mounts & holders on the market and one type that can be considered a holder too – handlebar and stem bags (eventually frame bags) for mobile phones. Below I explain their basic advantages and disadvantages.

bike phone mounts
Types of bike mounts (click to enlarge)

All Corners Bike Phone Holders

The first type is a bike phone holder that holds the phone in all corners. This type of holder is usually flexible, so if you ride more demanding terrain, such as unpaved roads in the forest, the holder absorbs unevenness.

However, the rubber holding the phone may interfere with the display or the front camera. You may not see the battery status and other icons located on the edges of the screen. Or you won’t be able to unlock your phone with your face due to the camera being covered.

Some of these holders have adjustable arms instead of flexible rubbers. They don’t interfere with the phone screen. But, the arms are made of plastic or light metals such as aluminum, and thus they don’t absorb as many shocks.

One Point of Touch Bike Phone Holders

The second type of bike phone holder uses only one point of contact located on the back of the case. The advantage is the ease of use. Just take the phone and clip it into the mounting mechanism attached to the handlebars or stem. It works the same way as attaching a bike computer.

If you use a system from one company, the case will be compatible with other mounting systems from the same company. For example, Quad Lock mounts are very popular and well-rated.

The main downside is that the mounting mechanism is attached to the phone case. This means you have to change the phone case to mount your phone securely. And, if you use a phone that is not very popular, the case may not be available for that specific model at all.

All Corners Combined with One Point of Touch Bike Phone Holders

The third type of bike phone holder is a combination of the previous two types. This means that you first insert the phone into the rubber holder and then snap it into the handlebars’ mounting mechanism (or stem).

The advantage is that you can remove the phone from the rubber at any time, so it will not interfere with your use. However, the main weakness is in the mounting mechanism on the handlebars. Usually, it is not very reliable and can come loose when riding in rough terrain, making the whole mount insecure.

Handlebar, Stem & Frame Bags with Phone Case

Handlebar, stem & frame bags form a separate category. These are not like the bike phone mounts I’ve described above. They often have a special pocket for smartphones.

The basic advantage is that you can store other things (for example, keys, snacks, etc.) in the handlebar, stem, or frame bag. And, most of them are also waterproof. So if you don’t own a waterproof smartphone and you will be surprised by the rain, you can stay calm.

Furthermore, some of these bags have a sun visor that improves screen visibility. However, they take up more space than phone mounts, and controlling the phone is more difficult due to the transparent plastic layer.

Feel free to read more about them in my separate article, The Best Handlebar Bags.
