UPDATE: Read my YOELEO G21 Altera review for more info.
YOELEO has introduced a new generation of their G21 gravel frame called Altera. Compared to the previous generation, which I tested and still own, it offers several improvements.
The G21 Altera now has two hidden storage compartments to stash tools or additional gels. Of course, you can also use additional bottle cage mounts if you prefer bikepacking or endurance cycling.
Despite the compartments, the frame is slightly lighter. I estimate it is 50g lighter in the same frame size. Together with the new YOELEO NxT SL2 gravel wheels, you can save over 200g on the whole bike.
Another difference is in terms of geometry. The Altera has a slacker headtube angle, a longer wheelbase, and a shorter stem. This should lead to better stability and control on rough terrain, and it helps avoid toe overlap.

YOELEO also adopted the UDH (universal derailleur hanger) standard, which is less prone to bending than a standard derailleur hanger on impact.
In terms of riding characteristics, the G21 Altera should be more comfortable thanks to the new seatpost, which provides greater flex and therefore better absorption of riding vibrations. The seatpost is round with a 27.2mm profile, so if the original one doesn’t fit you, you can easily replace it, unlike the previous generation’s D-shaped seatpost.
The bottom bracket is made of bonded aluminum and molded into the frame. This should ensure “perfect alignment, improved durability, and a lighter overall build.” Well, we’ll see.
The following table summarizes the main technical specifications.

Unfortunately, the price increased a bit. The price jumped from $1136 to $1420. Is this price bump justified? What do you think? Let me know in the comments, and remember to join my Facebook group where we discuss everything about Chinese carbon.
