Not so long ago, ROUVY introduced virtual shift support. As I predicted, another big player, MyWhoosh, supports it now as well. With the 4.0 update, they also added tons of new features. So, let’s go through what is new.
MyWhoosh Virtual Shifting
MyWhoosh has added support for virtual shifting. The app calculates the resistance when shifting virtual gears, and you don’t have to physically shift gears on the bike. The shifting is done via mobile onscreen controls, and I & K keys on the keyboard. Open Bluetooth protocol custom setup is also possible.
Unfortunately, MyWhoosh virtual shifting is currently not compatible with Zwift Play controllers. It seems that making this hardware work is more complicated.

The following table summarizes the pros and cons of virtual shifting.
Type of shifting | Pros | Cons |
---|---|---|
Virtual shifting (Zwift Cog) | • Improves compatibility with bikes that have different number of gears¹ • Eliminates cross chaining • Allows setting different gear ratios² • Quieter | • Less similar feeling to riding a bike outdoors • Slower when changing multiple gear • The position of the shifting buttons is not ideal • Not currently supported by applications other than Zwift and ROUVY |
Traditional shifting (cassette) | • Faster when changing more gears at once • Realistic shifting • Ideal position of the shifters | • Higher risk of cross chaining • Worse compatibility with bikes that have different number of gears • Won’t allow you to change gear ratios³ • Noisier |
¹Assuming a Zwift Cog is used.
²Currently on smart bikes only
³Assuming you don’t change cassette or chainrings
Custom Workout Creator
One of the standout additions in MyWhoosh 4.0 is the custom workout creator. With the new MyWhoosh Workout Editor, you can now design and manage your own training sessions. Remember that this tool is available on the MyWhoosh website, it’s not the in-built workout creator that was already a part of the app. The web version, of course, syncs automatically with the app.
You can also import workouts from other platforms (Strava, Zwift, TrainerRoad, ROUVY, and Bkool) into MyWhoosh and export them to share with coaches or training partners.
Structured Training Plans
The update also adds new structured training plans. MyWhoosh now offers beginner-level plans for the Sunday Race Club (SRC) and triathlon preparation. These plans are aimed at helping riders ease into consistent training with clear progression and achievable goals.

On the running side, MyWhoosh has rolled out structured workouts tailored to different levels. Whether you’re just starting with your first 5K or building endurance for longer races, the app now includes a growing library of sessions to support your goals. More running workouts are expected to be added soon.
Classic Trainer Support
MyWhoosh 4.0 now supports speed sensors and classic trainers. That means you can use it even without a smart trainer. The app will estimate your power. Models supported by speed sensors include Cycplus, Magene, Garmin, Wahoo, CatEye, and Thinkrider.
Dynamic Road Creation
If you organize events, you now have the ability to create custom routes using GPX files. This new feature, called Dynamic Road Creation, allows MyWhoosh to replicate real-world courses for events and races. It’s currently limited to official events but could be expanded in the future. This would allow you to mirror the actual profile of your race more closely and get an advantage over your competitors who could not recon the route.
Ride Dynamics V2
The new Ride Dynamics engine improves bunch behavior and drafting. The drafting algorithm has been upgraded to calculate positions more accurately and quickly, resulting in smoother pack riding, especially noticeable in races and group rides. I didn’t have that much time to test this feature, but drafting should feel more natural, and the improved physics makes pacing and positioning more predictable.
Other Small Improvements
The 4.0 update also brings a refreshed heads-up display (HUD). Data is easier to read during rides, workouts, and events. You can now also manage your workouts through the MyWhoosh Link app. You can start, pause, or stop your workout directly from your phone.
The in-game garage has expanded. You can now choose from a wider range of bikes, helmets, gloves, and other gear. It’s mostly cosmetic, but it gives you more ways to personalize your rider.
A unique addition to MyWhoosh 4.0 is the Triathlon Mode. This feature lets you switch between cycling and running with a single login across two devices. It’s designed for event organizers but can be used by individuals training for multisport events. It’s a handy tool for indoor duathlon or triathlon simulations.
