Not too long ago, I introduced you to the Intropy Speedster frame. In recent days, Incolor started teasing its new generation. This is the Intropy Speedster SSR, and on paper, it looks like a challenger to the most aerodynamic frames on the market. Let’s take a closer look at the ‘Speedster Radical’.

According to the Silverstone Sports Engineering Hub wind tunnel data (measured with a moving dummy), the SSR delivers up to 5.35W less drag within 0–5° yaw angle than its predecessor, the SS+, and 3.99W less than the Cervelo S5 at 45kph. This is achieved mainly thanks to a slimmer 34mm head tube, which results in a reduction in the frontal area by 6.4%. Speedster SSR has a frontal area of 586.59 cm². For comparison, the Specialized SL8 has a frontal area of 637.30 cm², the Speedster SS+ 626.64 cm², and the Cervélo S5 646.93 cm².

At just 1628g for the full frameset (including fork, seatpost, handlebar, and hardware), the SSR is 127g lighter than the SS+, which was already pretty lightweight (see the table below). The weight of 750g is for a 54-unpainted frame with no additional parts. Also, remember it already includes the seatpost.

Thanks to the use of T800 and T1100 carbon fiber and 3D-printed titanium components, the frame should not sacrifice strength and stiffness, according to Incolor. Incolor also states that the dual-tube structure significantly boosts head tube rigidity while maintaining robust bottom bracket stiffness, ensuring maximum power transfer and responsive handling. Well, these are bold claims. Interestingly, they claim that the lab tests show SSR outperforms top competitors like Specialized, Giant, and Cannondale in critical stiffness metrics.

With seven frame sizes (45–60) and support for full geometry customization—including unlimited seatpost height and setback—the SSR should fit riders from 155cm to 195cm. Multiple reach and stack combinations are available to dial in the ideal fit. Having a bike that fits you well is more important than any other watt savings. If the bike won’t fit you well or if you won’t be able to sustain an aerodynamic position, all other gains will be basically negated.

Also worth mentioning is the 38mm tire clearance. That kind of width is above standard for road frames. In theory, you could use this frame to build a super aero all-rounder.

You might also notice that the SSR has an integrated seatpost. It makes the design look cleaner. On the other hand, it makes the bike less adjustable. So measure twice before you cut it!

The SSR is available for pre-order in China at ¥27,800 (~3800 USD) and comes with a lifetime warranty covering manufacturing defects. The price includes the frame, handlebars, and titanium accessories. Crash replacement discounts of up to 30% on major damage and repair services for minor damage are also included. I also expect custom painting to be available.

So, what do you think about this new frame? It looks sleek and exciting, and I would love to test it out. It’s also a testament that we must take Chinese bicycle brands seriously. My biggest question mark is regarding the actual ride feel, as well as availability and pricing in the rest of the world. I would also love to see a comparison with the recently introduced Winspace T1600.
