Strava just announced a new, long-overdue feature. You can now send direct messages to others. And the best part? You don’t need a premium subscription! Just update the app to the latest version and ensure you have the birth date filled out.
So, will Strava become the new Tinder? A place where cyclists, runners, and other athletes find their soulmates? Well, it won’t be that easy. Let me explain why.
To message someone on Strava, you have to either follow each other, or you can allow anyone you follow to message you. This is bad news for men because “the one” has to follow us first. Remember that the messaging is only available in the smartphone app, not the web version.

You can add routes you’ve created in Strava to direct messages and send them to multiple recipients at once. This eliminates the need to use a different chat platform. However, you can’t send images, gifs, or other media, for example.

Lastly, you can also react to your messages or the messages of others using emojis. The good news is that you can also edit the message (in case you write the first stupid thing that comes to your mind when messaging your Strava crush). It’s also possible to flag inappropriate messages.

I’m curious to see if and how users will use Strava Messaging. Please share your vote in the poll below.
As a girl, I hope it won’t!
I fully understand your concern, Sarah. Stay safe!
