XDS has recently unveiled its X-LAB series, a high-performance lineup featuring the ultra-lightweight RT9, the aerodynamically optimized AD8, and the GT8 gravel bike. Long recognized as a primary manufacturing partner for many of the industry’s top labels, the Chinese giant is now leveraging its massive production scale, over 5 million bicycles annually, to directly challenge Western brands like Specialized, Trek, Cannondale, and more.
By offering professional-tier specifications at disruptive price points, XDS is signaling a major shift in the premium market. This global expansion is already hitting the ground in the US, where complete X-LAB bikes have begun appearing at major retailers like Jenson USA, and XDS had its own booth at the Sea Otter Classic 2026.
Together, these three models should capture budget-conscious riders who are tired of spending a fortune on pro-level bikes. Below, I summarize the most important things you need to know about the three new road and gravel models.
X-LAB RT9: The World’s Lightest Production Frame
The RT9 represents a significant engineering milestone for XDS, claiming the title of the lightest production road frame ever built, weighing an astonishing 550g for a size medium. To put this into perspective, it undercuts premium lightweight benchmarks like the Specialized S-Works Aethos, which sits around 585g, and the Cervélo R5, which weighs approximately 651g.
Designed specifically for climbing, the RT9 frame prioritizes a high stiffness-to-weight ratio over aerodynamic shaping. At a price point of $9150 for the flagship build, it should offer effortless elevation gain and instant acceleration.

The frame is constructed using Toray T1100 carbon fiber combined with M40X high-modulus carbon, using tow-spreading technology to reduce resin content and overall mass. To achieve these weight goals while maintaining necessary durability, the frame features wall thicknesses as thin as 0.4mm in non-critical zones.
The complete top-tier build weighs approximately 6.2kg, featuring a Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 groupset and a Branta carbon crankset. This drivetrain includes an integrated power meter and Apple Find My anti-theft technology for modern security and performance tracking. This is a pretty cool feature, so you don’t have to look for a hiding spot for Apple AirTags.
The bike is equipped with Branta C50 ULR wheels featuring carbon spokes, bringing the wheelset weight to just 1230g. The frame uses the BSA threaded bottom bracket standard, a standard 27.2mm round seatpost for compliance, and offers UDH compatibility.
X-LAB AD8: Professional Aerodynamics for Every Rider
The AD8 serves as the real-world counterpart to the AD9 flagship used by the Astana WorldTour team, designed to bridge the gap between professional racing technology and consumer accessibility. While the AD9 is an uncompromising machine built for the highest level of competition, the AD8 uses a Toray T800 carbon layup to create a platform that is more durable and accessible for daily use.
Despite the change in materials, it retains the core aerodynamic profiles and aggressive geometry of the team-issue model. At a price point of $4499, it offers a versatile platform for competitive cyclists looking for professional performance without the flagship price tag.

Like its professional sibling, the AD8 features a fully integrated design with hidden cable routing and the Branta Carbon Integrated handlebar system to minimize drag and improve appearance. The build includes a Shimano 105 Di2 groupset, complemented by a Branta carbon crankset. This crankset is also equipped with an integrated power meter and Apple Find My anti-theft technology.
The build features Branta C45 UL carbon wheels weighing 1330g, which contribute to the total bike weight of 7.41kg. The frame itself is tuned for responsive handling but also offers practical versatility, with clearance for tires up to 32mm to improve comfort on varied road surfaces.
X-LAB GT8: The Versatile Gravel Specialist
The GT8 is X-LAB’s first dedicated gravel platform, designed to extend the brand’s performance engineering into off-road terrain. It balances a race-ready carbon construction with the utility required for long-distance adventure and mixed-surface riding. Priced at $3199, this model represents a versatile addition to the lineup that adapts to both competitive racing and rugged exploration.
The standout feature of the GT8 is its massive 55mm tire clearance, which accommodates aggressive off-road tires that significantly exceeds the 32mm limit found on the road-focused AD and RT series. Built from Toray T800 carbon fiber, the frame is engineered for durability and includes integrated in-frame storage to keep essentials protected from the elements.

For those planning long-distance trips, the bike features multiple accessory mounting points on both the frame and fork, providing significant bikepacking versatility. Similar to the road models, the GT8 employs a semi-integrated cockpit and a Branta alloy power meter crankset. This drivetrain also includes Apple Find My anti-theft technology integrated directly into the system.
The standard specifications include a Shimano GRX 717 Di2 1×12 groupset, providing precise electronic shifting tailored for off-road use. The bike rolls on Branta C45 GT gravel-specific carbon wheels and utilizes a T47 threaded bottom bracket, a choice that ensures improved longevity and easier maintenance in dusty or muddy conditions.
I don’t know about you, but I’m excited to see what lies ahead for the cycling industry over the coming years. Chinese brands are increasingly competing with Western brands and putting pressure on ever-rising prices. In the end, we as consumers should win big time.
By the way, here is a walkthrough of the XDS booth at Sea Otter 2026.
