MyWhoosh is a free indoor cycling app that sponsors the UAE-Emirates WT cycling team, and it will host the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships in 2024, 2025, and 2026. But is it worth using? I decided to find out, as I already used most other popular indoor cycling apps, including Zwift, ROUVY, FulGaz, and more.
KEY TAKEAWAY
MyWhoosh offers a pleasant user experience, graphics, and cleverly designed structured workouts and training plans. While its user base is relatively small, it’s gaining traction, and thanks to the frequent updates, more routes and features are available. Additionally, you can win real money in races or collect in-game currencies and achievements to buy better equipment. These are just some reasons I believe MyWhoosh is the best free indoor cycling app available.
My MyWhoosh rating at a glance:
Ease of Setup 5/5 | Engagement 4/5 | Community 3/5 | Routes 3/5 | Training 3/5 | UX 4/5 | Platforms Availability 5/5 | Price 5/5 | OVERALL 4.0/5

What is MyWhoosh?
MyWhoosh is a free indoor cycling app with a virtual world and more realistic graphics than Zwift. It allows you to communicate with others, race, ride in groups, or do structured training.
Who is MyWhoosh for?
MyWhoosh is ideal for people who want to train indoors without spending money on an app subscription and like graphics made from scratch.
Who is MyWhoosh not for?
Due to its low popularity, MyWhoosh is not for those who want to be surrounded by others and socialize. You probably won’t like it if you prefer real-world footage.
My Experience with MyWhoosh
Here is my experience with the initial setup, routes, user experience, and more in MyWhoosh.
Initial Setup: Easy and Intuitive
To use MyWhoosh, you have to have a smart trainer. Having only a cadence + speed sensor is not possible. However, MyWhoosh is working on adding this feature.
Before I started using this app, I read many reviews that people struggled to connect it with their trainers. I connected Wahoo KICKR v5 and Wahoo TICKR easily with my iPhone 14 Pro over Bluetooth.

INDOOR CYCLING TIP: Improve your comfort and engagement with a cycling rocker plate and its swinging motion. I also recommend buying an indoor cycling fan to keep you cool.
In-App Experience: Good but Could Be Better
After pairing your device, you’ll be greeted by the following dashboard, which will be your crossroads for choosing your next activities.

Before the first ride, I customized my avatar in the garage. You can change the look and equipment, such as the bike, wheels, helmet, sunglasses, shoes, jersey, and gloves.

Then, I browsed the other options, such as the events, workouts, plans, etc. I’ll talk more about them later.
In MyWhoosh, you can do:
- Free rides
- Group rides
- Structured workouts (more about them below).
- Race
The graphics are okay, not too detailed, but sufficient. It’s not as cartoonish as Zwift.

I was pleased that I could interact with others via gestures or chat.

My first impressions were quite positive, considering it is a free app. However, one cannot forget that a lot of money is poured into it in the background.
I also discussed the behavior of avatars with my friend, Czech virtual cycling champion Daniel Turek. He stated:
The avatars in MyWhoosh react very quickly to changes in power output, making it difficult to take advantage of the draft. In Zwift, this reaction is much smoother and easier to predict.
Engagement: Powered by Challenges, Awards, and Achievements
MyWhoosh has a similar motivation system to Zwift. Instead of drops, you collect coins that you can use to buy new equipment. However, unlike in Zwift, you can buy these coins for real money. This is one of the ways MyWhoosh uses to monetize the platform.
The Awards and Achievements section is not as extensive as in Zwift, but they had to start somewhere. When I tested MyWhoosh in 2023, this section didn’t even exist.

There are also different challenges where you can earn season points and get additional rewards. The system is pretty comprehensive and mixes 3 different currencies (coins, power gems, and season points). I don’t know if this is intentional, so you lose track of how much in real money individual items cost, or just a bad design, but it’s confusing.

Anyway, it’s clear that MyWhoosh invested in this area and is trying to motivate users to spend more time on the app.
Routes: Diverse but Limited
In 2023, MyWhoosh offered a limited number of worlds, but since my last testing, they have added multiple worlds (and routes). You can choose from MyWhoosh World, Switzerland, California, Hudayriyat, Arabia, Colombia, Australia, Alula, and Belgium.

Each world includes several routes. The principle is the same as in Zwift: all worlds rotate based on a schedule. This ensures people won’t spread as much, and the worlds look fuller.
It seems that MyWhoosh was originally created as a marketing tool to promote the UAE and the Middle East because they started with Alula and Arabia. These places are frankly not very attractive for most Western users. That’s why they added more maps recently and will likely add more. The great thing is that you can see a detailed preview of each route and its segments.

I wonder if MyWhoosh will change its strategy and start rotating maps like Zwift.
UPDATE: They did.
Training: Surprisingly Comprehensive
The database of structured workouts and training plans pleasantly surprised me. Depending on your goals, you can choose the workout, workout collection, or structured plan to maximize the effectiveness.

In addition, the app includes a workout builder where you can create your own workouts and even do group workouts with people you connect with.

These workouts are probably not on the level of TrainerRoad, which can adjust the difficulty based on your past activities, but they were created by professional (World Tour) coaches.
I tried a few of them, and the ERG mode worked well. However, I noticed the intervals didn’t match the diagram. I would also appreciate a sound alert about the start/end of an interval. The virtual gates also were not displayed every time (based on the diagram).

In the last picture on the top left, you can also see that I have completed 1 interval out of 15, even though I am already entering the 6th interval. These shortcomings are fundamental, but at least you can train using MyWhoosh for free.
User Friendliness and Connectivity
MyWhoosh has a nice, clean user interface that is easy to use. I like it more than Zwift. It’s responsive, easy to navigate, loads quickly, and shows you what you need to know.
I experienced only one crash while writing a message. It didn’t work very well because I couldn’t see the preview of the text.
Platforms Availability
MyWhoosh is available on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and Apple TV.

MyWhoosh Alternatives
There are plenty of indoor cycling apps out there. The closest MyWhoosh alternatives are Zwift (see my MyWhoosh vs. Zwift comparison) and TrainingPeaks Virtual. I also recommend checking out my comparison of MyWhoosh vs. ROUVY.

My Verdict
Do I recommend MyWhoosh?
Yes. MyWhoosh offers most of the features you expect from an indoor cycling app (free rides, structured workouts, and plans). So, it should satisfy your needs if you don’t mind lacking the social “vibe.” I believe it’s currently the best free indoor cycling app.
Do I recommend it to everybody?
No. MyWhoosh is not for people who are socially oriented and require a lot of in-app interactions with others. You won’t meet as many people since MyWhoosh is not as popular as Zwift.
It also has a less sophisticated motivation system, so you must be internally motivated to train and ride.

Recent Updates
- Nov 13, 2023: Added info about the announced rotating schedule.
- May 15, 2024: Improved grammar.
- Sep 10, 2024: Big update to reflect the features in the 3.8.4 version.
- Jan 2, 2025: Update images to reflect the 3.9.1 version.
I think you should mention ‘TrainerDay’ which is only $3.99/mo and works very well.
Hi Tracy,
Thanks for the tip. I think it would be a better alternative to TrainerRoad. If I have time, I will do a separate review for it.

I tried MyWhoosh on my M1 Mac. It would only connect to Bluetooth devices and not ANT+. I checked online and there were comments about having to select ANT+ in the settings, but there is no ANT+ to set. So, I gave up and uninstalled MyWhoosh.
Back to Zwift I guess.
Hi Jim,
Interesting. Thanks for sharing your experience. I tried to connect via Bluetooth only. If I have time, I might try ANT+.

I have not been able to connect MyWhoosh to my Saris smart trainer. Neither Saris nor MyWhoosh have offered any helpful suggestions. Do you know how I might find some support or assistance?
Hi George,
That’s interesting. Unfortunately, I don’t have a Saris trainer to test it. However, it should be compatible, although it’s not on this list of recommended trainers: https://www.mywhoosh.com/docs/which-smart-equipment-works-with-mywhoosh/
Try to push MyWhoosh a bit more. They should at least tell you, whether your trainer is compatible. I suggest you have Saris H3?
– Petr
Mime loaded successfully but as soon as i started paddling or during the ride it just locks out
I’m sorry, what do you mean?
Is there a way to upload structured workouts which have beeb created in trainingplatforms like MATS or Trainingpeaks?
Hi Ole,
Unfortunately, I haven’t find a way how to synchronize workouts between these apps.

I use my whoosh without a smart trainer just fine, I only have a 4iiii power meter.
Hi Stephan,
Thanks for letting me know, I’ve updated the FAQ.

Run by a Totalitarian regime. No thanks. I try not to encourage in any way thoses country. It hard not to buy stuff from China for exemple but I try for the most part not to give them money or encourage them in any way possible. Not going to fly with Emirate,Quatar Airways,Ethiad etc even if they have some of the best customers service.Never will be going to Dubai, China, Abu-Dabi etc. Not even going to see Tennis anymore because it is sponsered by Emirates. It a personal choice and everybody is intitled to their opinion, but the way the world is going with dictatorship rising all around the world, I will try not to contribute to this by giving them legitimacy and acceptance.
Hi
Thanks for your comment. I usually try to avoid politics in reviews, but I fully understand and respect your point of view. 🙂

I have a Kinetic Road Machine fluid trainer which I picked up cheap on FB and MyWhoosh calibrated my power easily with a spindown. Runs on a Mac, iPhone, Windows, whatever. Great stability and there’s anywhere from 40-200 riders on any given route I’m riding. I love being able to design my own workouts. I have tried Zwift and TrainerRoad; the former was comparable and didn’t offer a better experience. I looked at Rouvy and its graphics are amazing – but I’m on a budget, so – not worth it. MyWhoosh is updating often, so it’s good to see the app is actively being developed.
Hi Wes,
Perfect. Thanks for sharing your experience!
