Looking for a new indoor cycling app but don’t know whether to choose ROUVY or MyWhoosh? You are in the right place because I tested both apps to discover what they offer and how they compare. You will learn about their key differences, pros, and cons.
KEY TAKEAWAY
The main difference between ROUVY and MyWhoosh lies in their approach. MyWhoosh offers a fully virtual world, while ROUVY acts as a simulator, combining real-world footage from various locations with virtual elements like avatars and banners.
ROUVY seems ideal for those who enjoy exploring real-world locations and don’t mind riding solo. On the other hand, MyWhoosh, while not very engaging for me yet, is quickly improving. Its biggest appeal is that it’s completely free, unlike ROUVY.
If I had to choose, I’d go with ROUVY because it lets me explore new routes while training. MyWhoosh doesn’t appeal to me as much due to its less engaging world and limited community.
ROUVY vs. MyWhoosh Summary
ROUVY and MyWhoosh both belong among the best indoor cycling apps. The main difference between them lies in the riding environment. MyWhoosh offers a fully virtual world, whereas ROUVY incorporates real-world footage from global locations, enhanced with virtual elements like avatars. MyWhoosh vs. ROUVY: Features Comparison
Let’s now dive deeper into the individual features of MyWhoosh and ROUVY.
World: Real vs. Virtual
For many, the riding environment is key when selecting an indoor cycling app (I am no exception).
ROUVY provides access to thousands of real-world routes, ranging from famous landmarks to hidden gems. Some of them are enhanced with virtual elements. Its extensive library is easy to navigate with filters for name, distance, duration, ascent, and more, ensuring you’ll always find a route that fits your needs or available time.
One of ROUVY’s biggest advantages is its variety of routes. With so many options, you’ll unlikely run out of new rides to try! Additionally, you can compare your performance against pro athletes on iconic routes from events like La Vuelta and IRONMAN.

In contrast, MyWhoosh features multiple virtual worlds, including MyWhoosh World, Switzerland, California, Hudayriyat, Arabia, Colombia, Australia, Alula, and Belgium. These worlds rotate on a schedule. This is to make the app look more populated and that many people use it. However, the limited selection may make the routes repetitive over time.

One downside of ROUVY is that its virtual world demands more data (much like streaming a YouTube video that downloads while it plays). If your internet connection is slow, you might experience lags. MyWhoosh is better optimized for lower data usage, providing more stability and fewer performance issues, even with slower internet speeds.
Winner: ROUVY
Multiplayer & Social Interactivity
Both apps let you connect with other riders and organize group rides.
MyWhoosh routes tend to feel busier, largely thanks to the presence of bots. While ROUVY is gaining popularity, its users are spread across hundreds of routes, meaning you’re less likely to encounter many riders except on the most popular roads. If social interaction is a priority, ROUVY might not be the best choice.

Another drawback of ROUVY is the lack of an in-game chat feature. To communicate with friends, you’ll need to use third-party apps. In contrast, MyWhoosh includes a built-in chat, making it easier to interact. ROUVY also doesn’t offer in-app gestures like waving, so greeting others directly isn’t an option. Although ROUVY introduced the ROUVY Companion app, it still doesn’t address the absence of a chat function.

MyWhoosh provides the MyWhoosh Link app, which enhances the desktop app by allowing users to explore events, join clubs, chat with others, and more. It works basically like the Zwift Companion app.
Winner: MyWhoosh
PRO TIP: Try a rocker plate to make your indoor cycling experience more comfortable and engaging.
Races & Events
Both MyWhoosh and ROUVY support racing and event hosting. Notably, MyWhoosh hosted the 2024 UCI Esports Cycling World Championships and is set to host it again in 2025 and 2026. However, both apps currently offer a limited number of races and events due to a smaller user base than Zwift. It still remains the best option for e-racing—for now.
ROUVY stands out with its variety of official and unofficial races and events. Official events are more actively promoted, attracting more people, while unofficial races tend to have fewer participants.

Workouts: Both Apps Should Satisfy You
Both ROUVY and MyWhoosh are suitable apps for structured training.
In ROUVY, you can browse workouts and filter them based on difficulty, length, etc. Recently, they also added a workout builder and virtual partners. You can create a workout based on your needs or upload your own from other apps like TrainingPeaks. The virtual partners can keep you company and motivate you to maintain a certain tempo.

MyWhoosh has a similar workout and structured training plans library and is trying hard to extend it. You can also create custom workouts that will satisfy your needs.

Winner: It’s a draw
TIP: Use an indoor cycling fan to stay cool during your workouts.
Gamification: Game vs. Real Videos
One area where MyWhoosh and ROUVY differ the most is gamification.
MyWhoosh began without many gamification elements. But Zwift clearly inspired them to implement more and more gamification elements. Instead of drops, you collect coins that you can use to buy new equipment. However, unlike in Zwift, you can buy these coins for real money. This is one of the ways MyWhoosh uses to monetize the platform.

There are also different challenges where you can earn season points and get additional rewards. The system is pretty comprehensive and mixes 3 different currencies (coins, power gems, and season points). I don’t know if this is intentional, so you lose track of how much in real money individual items cost, or just a bad design, but it’s confusing.

ROUVY was pretty much gamification-free (not counting the poorly designed challenges) until the end of 2021. However, they launched a new ROUVY Career at the beginning of 2022. It consists of 80 levels that you complete by collecting coins. You get them by riding (regardless of the type of ride you do). You can then spend these coins on new gear and customize your avatar like in MyWhoosh. However, the choice is more limited.

Completing levels also earns you extra rewards from ROUVY’s partners, such as TrainingPeaks (a 30-day premium account for free), Elite (a discount on nutrition-related products), etc.

It seems that ROUVY doesn’t even try to be “more fun” and spend much time on their career. It’s simply less comprehensive. It aims to attract different types of people. For this reason, I believe MyWhoosh has an edge here.
Winner: MyWhoosh
User Friendliness
ROUVY and MyWhoosh are both easy to use. ROUVY features a purple color scheme, while MyWhoosh opts for lighter tones. Although ROUVY underwent a major redesign in 2023 that brought significant improvements, I still think it could be better. The colors remain too dark for my taste, and some interface elements don’t behave consistently, leaving room for further refinements.

MyWhoosh had good ease of use from the start. However, it’s not without its flaws. Ultimately, which app feels more user-friendly will depend on your personal preferences. For me, both apps do a solid job of covering the basics and allowing me to find what I need pretty quickly.

Winner: It’s a draw
Platforms Availability
ROUVY and MyWhoosh are available on all major platforms, including iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, and Apple TV.

Pricing
MyWhoosh is free (in-app purchases available), which is pretty cool considering the value it brings. ROUVY is available for $14.99/month or $144/year and also has group plans, which can push the price down to $6.6/month. Therefore, MyWhoosh seems like a no-brainer. But remember, it depends on what type of rider you are and what you are looking for.

ROUVY and MyWhoosh Alternatives
For those looking for indoor cycling apps similar to ROUVY, FulGaz is the closest option. It also uses real-world footage from different locations worldwide. However, unlike ROUVY, it doesn’t use augmented reality, providing an uninterrupted view of the footage.
If you prefer an alternative to MyWhoosh, Zwift is the best option. MyWhoosh is basically a copy of it, but Zwift has more cartoonish graphics. I also recommend checking out TrainingPeaks Virtual, which is similar but has more realistic graphics.
The following table summarizes all the indoor cycling apps I tested and my scoring.

Petr, thanks for comparing Rouvy vs. MyWhoosh… the two indoor cycling apps I am currently using. But here’s a topic you have not adressed yet: accuracy.
My Question:
Is Rouvy “too easy” or is MyWhoosh “too hard”?
My observation:
Obviously, my indoor cycling set up is the same for both apps, I ride on a Wahoo Kickr Bike with virtual 2×12 gears. On both apps, I have checked and made sure they are set to 100% riding accuracy.
I ride a lot with Rouvy, so I know exactly which gradient / incline makes me chose which gear. For example, I use the 2nd gear (small chainring, second largest sprocket, Gear 1-2) for ascents between 8%-10%. Everything above 10% (I’ve ridden up to 21% gradient) I will ride in my first gear (Gear 1-1).
Riding the virtual worlds of MyWhoosh, I found myself pedaling much harder on the inclines, shifting to my smallest gear (1-1) even for 10% inclines and really “pushing it” on 12% inclines… not even thinking about steeper gradients!
Some similar experience riding downhill, when on Rouvy I shift to my fastest gear (2-12) and spinning at 120RPM… but on MyWhoosh I have never been able to shift beyond 2-9.
So what do you think?
Rouvy claims to provide a riding experience as realistic as possible, even slowing you down in downhill switchback turns, so they claim “accuracy”.
Riding on MyWhoosh feels harder, but they have a UCI sponsorship and some professional racers on their platform, so they shouldn’t be “inaccurate” either?
Hi Christian and thank you for your extensive comment.
I honestly didn’t pay that much attention to this. However, I would lean toward ROUVY as being more accurate. Being a sponsor of the UCI Esports Cycling World Championships and having pros on the platform doesn’t mean the “basics” are done right. Especially, when you take a look how much money is being poured into MyWhoosh and from which sources. 🙂
