This is my review of the Lún HYPER wheels, also known as Winspace HYPER. They are among the best Chinese carbon wheels on the market.
I’ve watched many video reviews on YouTube that seemed too good to be true, so I decided to buy them and form my own opinion.
I tested them in my small workshop and by riding outside and compared them to other Chinese wheels.
Are you excited to see the results?
KEY TAKEAWAY
HYPER 2020 passed my indoor quality control checks but with some flaws. However, they ride great, especially on flats and rolling terrain. They are too stiff for my liking, so I have to compensate with lower tire pressures on harsher roads to ensure riding comfort. They could also offer better crosswind stability. But overall, they provide excellent value for the money.

First Impressions and Unboxing
I ordered the Lún HYPER 50mm disc brake option on January 19th, and they arrived at my doorstep about two and a half weeks later, on February 7th. This was pretty impressive, especially considering that it was during the Chinese New Year.
Unlike the YOELEO SAT PRO wheels, the HYPERs came in a nice branded black box with no serious damage, except for one slightly crumpled corner.
I appreciate it when a brand pays attention to details; even the unboxing experience is part of the product experience.
This is something that Apple does very well. The text “YOU JUST GOT FASTER” gives you a positive affirmation that you’ve made a good investment in new equipment.
Lún’s creativity doesn’t stop there. The following text on the bottom of the box is also pretty amusing.
The wheels were protected with protectors and cardboard to prevent damage during shipping.
The packaging included a nice box with spare spokes and valve extenders.
In-House Tests
I conducted the following tests before I started riding the wheels.
Lateral and Radial Trueness
I had high expectations for HYPERs due to the hype, but they were not as well-trued as YOELEO SAT PROs or Elitewheels DRIVE.
This applied to both lateral and radial trueness. My spoke tension test revealed that they were not 100% true.
Spoke Tension
The spoke tension consistency was good but not perfect. One spoke on the left side of the front wheel was slightly off, but it was not a serious issue.
The same applied to the rear wheel. All spokes were within the 5% tolerance.
So the overall consistency was not as good as YOELEO SAT PROs, but it still met high standards.
Rim Centering (Dishing)
Based on the previous results, I did not expect the hub to be off-center. The use of the dishing tool confirmed this. There was only a small gap on both wheels.
A Look Inside
Winspace is often praised for its excellent workmanship. So I was curious to see if I would discover any problems with my endoscope.
Aside from a small spot where a bit of epoxy resin was peeling off, the wheels appeared clean and free of major imperfections.
The Difficulty of Putting the Tire On
I tested how difficult it was to put a tire on the HYPERs compared to other Chinese wheelsets.
It was harder to put my Tufo Comtura 4 TR 28mm tubeless tires on the HYPERs than on YOELEO SAT PROs or Elitewheels DRIVE, but easier than on Farsports Ventoux S. I had to use tire levers.
However, inflating them was easy with a compressor, probably thanks to the pre-installed rim tape. I didn’t need a tire sealant or soapy water to seat them.
Overall, the HYPERs were the easiest of all the wheelsets I’ve tested so far to install tubeless tires on.
The table below shows all wheels I tested.

Riding Experience
I have been riding on HYPER wheels for around 500 1500 km (310 930 miles) now.
One of my initial observations is that they are very stiff, possibly a bit too stiff for rough roads or cobblestones. The Farsports Ventoux S feels even stiffer, although it’s hard to quantify.
I sometimes need to lower the tire pressure to compensate for the stiffness. However, this stiffness is advantageous on smooth roads or climbs, as the energy I put into the pedals transfers into forward movement. Heavier riders would likely appreciate this too.
HYPER wheels are also about 200g lighter than the YOELEO SAT PRO. They don’t have as much momentum, making them better suited for climbing and acceleration.
However, if I were going to the Alps, I would prefer lighter wheels like the Elitewheels DRIVE to conserve energy.
In terms of crosswind stability, HYPERs are not the best. You should exercise caution in strong crosswinds. Riding in 35 kph (21.75 mph) crosswinds was challenging, as it was difficult to maintain a straight line with the 50mm deep rims.
The stability is not as good as the YOELEOs, and surprisingly, the Elitewheels DRIVE, which are about 150g lighter, felt more stable. But they have 5mm shallower rims, so I am unsure if the difference was due to the rim depth or the wheel design. I believe it’s a combination of both.
TIP: Check out my detailed comparison of Lún HYPER vs. Elitewheels DRIVE.
I believe that Lún HYPER wheels strike a balance between weight and stability. They are not too light to lack stability or too heavy to be unresponsive.
However, what I appreciate the most about them is their design. They look great and turn heads. I received many compliments on their finish, so if this is important to you, I assure you that you will stand out.

Lún (Winspace) HYPER Alternatives
Lún HYPER belong to the most well-known Chinese carbon wheels. However, there are some other high-quality alternatives you may consider.
- Farsports Ventoux S are more expensive than HYPERs and not UCI approved. But they meet ISO 4210 quality standards and weigh about 1380g (45mm option). Use the ‘cyclistshub100‘ discount code at www.farsports.com on the checkout page to get 100 USD off your purchase or read this in-depth Farsports Ventoux S review.
- Elitewheels DRIVE are more affordable than HYPERs and also much lighter (they weigh only 1280g in the 45mm option). They have in-house designed hubs, carbon spokes, and a unique rim finish. Use the ‘cyclistshub‘ discount code at www.elite-wheels.com on the checkout page to get 15% off your purchase or read this in-depth Elitewheels DRIVE review.
- YOELEO SAT PRO are the most affordable of these three. They come with DT Swiss 350 hubs and Sapim CX-Ray spokes. They are very stable in crosswinds thanks to their higher weight. Read this in-depth YOELEO SAT PRO review.
My Verdict
When it comes to HYPER wheels, you can’t go wrong. They passed all my in-house tests, although their truing could be better.
I appreciate the attention to detail that Lún puts into their merchandising. The unboxing experience was the “most premium” of all the Chinese wheelsets I’ve purchased.
The weight and design of the HYPERs ensure decent stability in crosswinds while maintaining responsiveness when accelerating. But the truth is, the crosswind stability is worse than other wheelsets at this price range.
They are also quite stiff, so they may not be suitable for rough roads unless you compensate for their stiffness with lower tire pressure.
On the other hand, if you are a heavier rider or your local roads are smooth, you will appreciate how efficiently they transfer your energy into forward motion.
Some people have complained about creaking sounds, but I didn’t experience this issue. The hubs also did not require any regreasing, suggesting that Lún has addressed these issues based on customer feedback.
Due to the high popularity of HYPERs, I expect their price to go up in the future. If you are considering purchasing them, I recommend doing so sooner rather than later. You can take advantage of my 10% discount and support my website.

Hi Petr,
Did you already test the new „MEGA“ wheelset?
If you did so, what is your verdict?
Hi Pirmin,
Yes, I do. I have done one ride on them so far. I don’t want to spoil the review much (it will go out in a month or so), but they are veeery stiff.
– Petr
Hi Pirmin,
So, I tested them. 🙂 You can read my MEGA review for detailed info about these wheels.
hi lovely review and ive gotten a new Hyper 2020, definitely stiff …… can i know which tyre width would you recommend? I am contemplating using 25mm front and 28mm rear so that i could lower the PSI tyre presssure and have a more comfy ride.
Hi Desmond,
Thank you very much. 😊
You can’t go wrong with Continentals, but they are a bit expensive. I use Tufo Comtura 4 TR 28mm. For further research on tires, I recommend bicyclerollingresistance.com.
Additionally, recent research showed that wider tires (30, 32mm) are faster than narrow tires (25, 28mm), so consider this option too. You can find a lot of videos on YouTube (from GCN or NorCal) on this topic.

I purchased a set of Lun Hyper 23 SE wheels last fall, and they are TRASH! In the first 1000 miles, I had the front wheel trued three times and the rear wheel trued twice. (Truing these wheels is a pain because you need to remove the tire and spoke tape and do it from the inside.) Since I am 50+ years old and ride conservatively on good, paved roads, I suspected the wheels were defective. I contacted Winspace, and they provide a replacement set. Less than 200 miles on the new set, the rear wheel needed to be trued. I have not hit anything larger than a marble with these wheels. My only remedy with Winspace is a third set, but it is not worth my time. Winspace did not respond to my complaint. I tossed them and put my old wheels back on. I’m out $1200. Do not buy this trash!
Hi TJ,
I’m really sorry to hear about your experience. From what I’ve read (and I’ve read a lot), you’re one of the few who had bad experiences with these wheels. I agree that truing is a pain (I’ve also made slight adjustments after hitting a pothole). If you can, please send me some videos of before and after truing to my email. I’m curious to see how bad it was.
