This is my Lún HYPER wheels review. They are better known as Winspace HYPER and belong to the best Chinese carbon wheels you can buy.
I’ve seen a lot of video reviews on YouTube that sounded too good to be true. So I decided to buy them and make up my own opinion.
I tested them in my modest workshop, and in this review, I compared them with other Chinese wheels.
Can’t you wait to see the results?
Let’s dive in!
NOTE: Lún recently introduced HYPER 2023 wheels. They are wider, stiffer, and faster. Learn more…
Main Features & Specs
I bought Lún HYPER 50mm disc brake option. This is one of the most popular rim depths for most roadies because it’s suitable for flats and hilly terrain and is not too heavy for climbs.
Naturally, HYPERs are available in multiple rim depths (38, 50, and 65mm) and also for rim brakes.

First Impressions and Unboxing
I ordered HYPERs on the 19th of January, and they arrived at my doorstep about two and a half weeks later, on the 7th of February. Pretty impressive considering the fact it was during the Chinese New Year.
Unlike YOELEO SAT PRO wheels, HYPERs came in a nice, branded black box.
There was no damage to it except one slightly crumpled corner, but this is nothing serious.
I like it when a brand pays attention to details. Even the unboxing itself is part of the product experience. This is exactly what Apple does.
The following detail impressed me the most. The text “YOU JUST GOT FASTER” gives you a positive affirmation that you’ve made a good investment in your equipment.
But they didn’t stop there. The following text on the bottom part of the box is also pretty clever (and funny).
The wheels were protected against each other with protectors and cardboard to avoid damage.
The packing also included a nice box with spare spokes and valve extenders.
In-House Tests
I conducted the following tests before I started riding the wheels.
Lateral and Radial Trueness
I had pretty high expectations from HYPERs because of the hype. However, they were not as well-trued as YOELEO SAT PROs or Elitewheels DRIVE.
This applies to both lateral and radial trueness. My spokes tension test answered why they were not 100% true.
Spoke Tension
The spoke tension consistency was fine but not perfect. The left side of the front wheel had one of the spokes a little bit off, but overall, it was nothing serious.
The same applied to the rear wheel. All spokes were within the 5% tolerance.
So the overall consistency was not as good as on YOELEO SAT PROs, but it still met pretty high standards.
Rim Centering (Dishing)
Based on the previous results, I didn’t expect the hub will be off-center. The use of the dishing tool proved this assumption. There was only a tiny gap on both wheels.
Difficulty to Put the Tire On
I also tested how difficult it is to put a tire on compared to other Chinese wheelsets.
Putting my Tufo Comtura 4 TR 28mm tubeless tires was more difficult than on YOELEO SAT PROs or Elitewheels DRIVE but less difficult than on Farsports Ventoux S. Still, I had to use tire levers.
However, I was able to inflate them easily with a compressor. I am sure the pre-installed rim tape helped. By the way, I didn’t need to use a tire sealant or soapy water for seating them.
The HYPER wheels were the best in terms of installing tubeless tires from all wheelsets I tested so far.
The table below shows all wheels I tested.

Riding Experience
I’ve been using HYPERs for about 500 km (310 miles) now.
One of my first observations is their stiffness. They are very stiff. In fact, they are a little bit too stiff for rougher roads or cobblestones. On the other hand, the Farsports Ventoux S feel even stiffer. But it’s difficult to put this in numbers.
I sometimes need to compensate for their stiffness with lower tire pressure. But this stiffness comes in handy once I ride on smooth tarmac or climbs.
The energy I put into the pedals is transferred into the forward movement. I am sure that heavier riders will appreciate it too.
HYPER wheels are also about 200g lighter than YOELEO SAT PRO. This means they don’t have as big momentum and are more suitable for climbing and accelerations.
However, if I were going on a trip to the Alps, I would rather bring lighter wheels like Elitewheels DRIVE to save some energy.
HYPER’s crosswind stability is not the best. Expect you will need to be careful in strong crosswinds. I rode in 35 kph (21.75 mph) crosswinds, and keeping a straight line with the 50mm deep rims was challenging.
The stability is not as good as the stability of YOELEOs. Surprisingly, the Elitewheels DRIVE, which are about 150g lighter, felt more stable. But they have 5mm shallower rims. So it is hard to say if the difference was caused by the rim depth or the wheel design. I would say both.
I think that Lún HYPER sit in the sweet spot weight. They are not too light to lack stability or too heavy to be unresponsive.
However, one of the things I like the most about them is their design. They turn heads. I got many compliments on their finish. So, if this is something you care about, I can assure you that you will stand out from the crowd.

Lún (Winspace) HYPER Alternatives
Lún HYPER belong to the most well-known Chinese carbon wheels. However, there are some other high-quality alternatives you may consider.
- Farsports Ventoux S are more expensive than HYPERs and not UCI approved. But they meet ISO 4210 quality standards and weigh about 1380g (45mm option). Use the ‘cyclistshub100‘ discount code at www.farsports.com on the checkout page to get 100 USD off your purchase or read this in-depth Farsports Ventoux S review.
- Elitewheels DRIVE are more affordable than HYPERs and also much lighter (they weigh only 1280g in the 45mm option). They have in-house designed hubs, carbon spokes, and a unique rim finish. Use the ‘cyclistshub‘ discount code at www.elite-wheels.com on the checkout page to get 15% off your purchase or read this in-depth Elitewheels DRIVE review.
- YOELEO SAT PRO are the most affordable of these three. They come with DT Swiss 350 hubs and Sapim CX-Ray spokes. They are very stable in crosswinds thanks to their higher weight. Read this in-depth YOELEO SAT PRO review.
Lún (Winspace) Wheels FAQ
My Verdict
With HYPER wheels, you can’t go wrong. They passed all my in-house testing, although their truing could be done a little bit better.
I like the attention to detail Lún put into their merchandising. The unboxing experience was the “most premium” of all the Chinese wheelsets I bought.
The weight and design of the HYPERs ensure decent stability in crosswinds while maintaining responsivity when accelerating.
They are pretty stiff, so they are unsuitable for harsh roads unless you compensate for their stiffness with lower tire pressure.
On the other hand, if you are a heavier rider or your local roads are smooth, you will appreciate how efficiently they transfer your energy into the forward movement.
A few riders complained about creaking sounds, but I didn’t experience this issue. Hubs also didn’t require any regreasing. It seems Lún addressed these issues based on customers’ feedback.
Due to the high popularity of HYPERs, I expect their price will go up in the future. If you consider them, I recommend buying them sooner rather than later. You can take advantage of my 10% discount and support my website.
