I’d never heard of Toccay until they reached out to me directly. A Chinese wheelset manufacturer operating somewhat under the radar in the US or Europe isn’t particularly unusual. Naturally, I was curious about their flagship, AERO-60 Ghost wheelset, and how it would compare to other wheels I tested. In this review, I share everything I learned.

First Impressions and Unboxing
The packaging is solid. The wheels arrived in a brown box with another black box inside. It included RideNow valves and an SRAM XDR hub. They include both by default, which is great if you want to sell the wheels later because SRAM users can also buy them, effectively widening the pool of potential buyers. It would be nice to also include a QC sheet, like UPVINE or Particle do, but it’s not a dealbreaker.
In-House Quality Control Testing
As always with road bike carbon wheels, I conducted the following tests before I started using the wheels:
These tests provide a better understanding of the wheel’s assembly quality. So, did the AERO-60 Ghost wheels pass them?
Lateral and Radial Trueness
Both wheels were trued well, but not perfect. While the rear wheel was almost perfectly true, the front wheels showed a small deviation, resulting in a 4/5, not a 5/5, score.
Spoke Tension
Both front and rear wheels had 2 spokes outside the 5% tolerance. Other than that, spoke tension was consistent, as shown in the following images. I found no twisted spokes or other obvious defects.
Rim Centering (Dishing)
Hubs were perfectly centered with no gap between the dishing tool pin and the end cap on either wheel; great job by the wheel builder.
A Look Inside
These Toccay rims are among the cleanest I’ve seen. I found no epoxy remnants or other problems. Again, job well done!
The Difficulty of Putting the Tire On and Off
Mounting Continental Grand Prix 5000 S TR 32mm tires proved to be pretty easy. I didn’t need tire levers, and I could seat them with a regular floor pump. If you are a regular reader, you know I’ve always used Tufo Comtura 4 TR 28mm tires for this test, but I decided to slowly transition to wider tires, especially when testing wider road rims. The 28mm compromise handling characteristics on wide rims over 32mm. I recommend using these wheels with at least 30mm tires. The 32mm Continental tires measure 34.6mm when inflated.
Riding Experience
I enjoyed these wheels most on fast, flat rides and rolling terrain. I paired them mainly with the Winspace T1600. It is already a fast bike, which makes this setup feel amazing. They also work great with the Evolve Cima and easily handle steep climbs. For a 60mm rim depth, the wheels are lightweight at just 1226g. They spin up effortlessly and deliver instant acceleration, so pairing them with a lightweight frame makes sense, especially if you live in a flat-ish area as I do.
As with aero frames, you only feel the speed benefits of deep rims at higher speeds, above 22 to 25 mph (35 to 40 km/h). On a slow recovery ride, you probably won’t notice a difference.
Toccay uses a V-shaped rim profile. Multiple engineers at China Cycle 2026 confirmed that V-profiles are faster than U-profiles. However, Toccay has not wind-tunnel tested these wheels yet, so we can only guess their true aerodynamic speed.
The downside of a V-profile is worse crosswind stability. Even with 32mm tires (inflated to 34.6mm), stability was worse than with shallower wheels or with the YOELEO SAT PRO NxT2 60mm I tested. You need to pay closer attention and be more careful, especially in wind gusts that happen between buildings or when you are overtaken by trucks.
The wheels themselves are stiff and responsive. They feel firm and precise rather than compliant, which is typical for carbon spokes. Toccay uses closed hub flanges and relatively narrow 3.1mm carbon spokes, unlike wheels such as the Lún HYPER 5, which use 5mm spokes, or the Elitewheels DRIVE II, which use 4.5mm ones.
The 36T ratchet hubs performed flawlessly under high loads and low cadences. The freehub is fairly loud, so I recommend adding extra grease. I have not experienced any skipping or other issues.
Because the rims are wide, I recommend pairing them with 30mm or wider tires. While the Tufo Comtura 4TR 28mm tires stretch to about 33mm when inflated, they lack traction and feel less confident on the road. With Continental GP5000 S TR 32mm, I feel like driving a tank. Some would say that such wide tires are confidence-inspiring, but I don’t exactly feel “inspired”, haha.
Overall, I enjoyed these wheels most on fast-speed bunch rides and with tailwinds. It feels more effortless to maintain these higher speeds, although the lower rotational weight seems to lead to faster speed loss when I stop pedaling.
Comparable Alternatives

My Verdict
I found the Toccay AERO-60 Ghost to be a pleasant surprise, offering a lightweight build and strong power transfer at just 1,226g despite its 60mm depth and rim tape. On the road, they spin up quickly, and I enjoyed them the most on flat or rolling routes where maintaining speeds above 21 mph (35 km/h) feels effortless.
My in-house QC testing also confirmed solid build quality, with an exceptionally clean interior, accurate dishing, and simple tubeless tire installation on the wide 25mm internal rims.
However, the wheels do come with trade-offs regarding aero claims and handling. Toccay relies on a V-shaped profile without backing it up with wind-tunnel data, so I can only guess their true aerodynamic performance. Additionally, that aggressive rim shape makes them feel a bit twitchier in crosswinds and side gusts than other deep wheels I’ve tested.
I strongly recommend pairing them with 30mm or wider tires to improve overall handling, making this set best suited for riders who prioritize quick spool-up and fast pace on calmer days.
