This is my Sportneer bike trainer review. I had to find out if its title of ‘Amazon best seller’ is justifiable.

The short answer is yes, it is. You can buy it here. Or…

Read my in-depth review, where I explain who it is for, how it stands out against a more expensive bike trainer, and much more.

I’ve been using indoor bike trainers and monitoring the market for quite some time now, so I will tell you everything you need to know.

Let’s dive in!

Who Is Sportneer Bike Trainer Stand for?

The Sportneer bike trainer stand is ideal for beginners and people on a limited budget. It is one of the best budget bike trainers.

In addition, it’s suitable for those who want to spin out their legs, do some exercise, or maintain their fitness at home.

Although it’s a wheel-on trainer, it’s surprisingly quiet. So if you live in an apartment, you won’t disturb your neighbors.

On the other hand, it’s unsuitable for advanced and demanding riders who want ‘smart’ features like measuring watts, cadence, interactivity, etc.

NOTE: You may need to buy a through-axle adaptor if you have a disc brake bike with a through axle to ensure a secure fit.

Features & Benefits

So, what are the main features of this indoor bike trainer, and what benefits do they bring you? I will explain them below.

Easy to Set Up

Do you remember how I told you this trainer is suitable for beginners? I meant it. This is not only thanks to its affordability but also thanks to the ease of setup.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Find a place where you want to use your trainer.
  2. Replace the rear quick-release screw on your bike with the steel one included in the box.
  3. Mount your bike into the trainer and secure it with the lever.
  4. Adjust the trainer’s cylinder to press against your rear tire (it shouldn’t be too tight or too loose).
  5. Check if your bike is mounted securely.

And that’s it! The entire process will take you only a few minutes.

The following picture shows how to mount and secure the QR properly. Ensure the red nut is fully tightened and the QR fits the groove.

Adjustable Rubber Feet

Not everybody has a perfectly level floor. But, this trainer comes with a super handy feature – adjustable rubber feet.

This is a big benefit compared to the Elite Novo Force trainer with no feet adjustability.

The only thing you have to do is twist the feet and choose the desired position if your floor is uneven.

Sufficient Resistance for Most People

Sportneer doesn’t state the maximum resistance of their trainer. However, it’s sufficient for most people. I was able to do sprint intervals without maxing the trainer out.

Whether you want to do an indoor cycling workout to maintain your fitness or spin your legs from time to time, the resistance will be enough.

Its increments are lower than on the Elite Novo Force, though. The difference between level 2 and level 3, for example, is almost unnoticeable.

I can guarantee you won’t sustain the maximum resistance for long. Of course, if you have a 1000W+ sprint and you want to do sprint drills, you should look elsewhere and buy an appropriate trainer. Browse the best bike trainers for some inspiration.

Remember, this Sportneer bike trainer stand can’t adjust the resistance like smart bike trainers.

Road Feel – Not Great, Not Terrible

The road-like ride feel is fine. This is where Elite Novo Force offers a better experience. The only issue I have is the vibrations because this trainer vibrates a lot.

So, to reduce the effect of the vibrations, I recommend using it with a bike trainer mat. It will absorb them and make your ride less noisy and more comfortable.

Surprisingly Low Noisiness

One of the things that surprised me the most about the Sportneer trainer was the relatively low noise.

I’ve been using the Elite Novo Force wheel-on trainer that is several times more expensive and found out that it’s even noisier than the Sportneer trainer.

When my cadence was low (80-90 RPM), the noisiness level was ~62 dB (level above normal conversation). But, in higher cadences (100 RPM), the vibrations started to be more significant, and the noisiness increased to ~65 dB.

So, you can watch TV or listen to music while pedaling. However, you will need to increase the volume. The faster the flywheel spins, the higher the noise, and vice versa.

However, the Sportneer trainer causes more vibrations and doesn’t feel as smooth as the Novo Force.

Although wheel-on trainers are usually compatible with multiple bike types, I recommend using them with a road bike because of the smooth tires. They are quieter than knobby MTB tires. You can also buy bike trainer tires to reduce the noise and tire wear.

Great Portability

Thanks to its foldable design and relatively low weight, the Sportneer trainer has great portability.

You can fold it and store it in a closet, under a bed, or anywhere else during the off-season. Then, you can set it up within a minute and start riding.

Good Stability

I was very curious to see how sturdy and stable this trainer is. Some of my workouts include sprint drills, so the last thing I want is to fall over due to an unstable trainer.

The truth is that this trainer is far less stable than my Elite Novo Force. But, if I don’t widely swing my bike from side to side, it’s perfectly fine.

You don’t have to worry about breaking it, even if you are a heavier rider. Just don’t expect the same stability as on more expensive trainers.

Sportneer Bike Trainer Stand Alternatives

Here are some Sportneer bike trainer alternatives worth your attention:

  • Elite Novo Force – is sturdier and more durable, and its cylinder is made of Elastogel, which reduces the tire wear, so your tires will last longer. However, it is also more expensive.
  • Kinetic Road Machine 2 – is also more stable and durable. It also provides higher resistance (of up to 1400W) but is more expensive.

I wrote an entire article on budget bike trainers. It even includes budget smart bike trainers.

NOTE: You will probably find similar bike trainers (only with a different brand name) on Amazon. I don’t know which one is the original, but the Sportneer belongs to the most popular ones.

Sportneer Bike Trainer Stand FAQ

My Verdict

I didn’t expect much from the Sportneer indoor bike trainer considering its low price. However, I was pleasantly surprised. And I am telling this from the position of an avid road cyclist.

This trainer is a great option for beginners and people with a limited budget because of its excellent price-value ratio.

It’s relatively quiet, so I don’t disturb my neighbors or loved ones. I also like its foldability, so it doesn’t take up too much space when I don’t use it.

Although it doesn’t feel as stable as the more expensive Elite Novo Force, I am sure you don’t have to worry about its stability if you don’t widely swing your bike during sprints.

Overall, I believe it’s worth the “Amazon Best Seller” title because it offers everything you expect from a budget bike trainer.
