This year’s Tour de France begins this week, so I thought it would be interesting to learn more about the bikes used by pro cyclists.
I gathered the prices of all road bikes used by all cycling teams (World Tour + Pro Continental) on the Tour de France since 2020 and did the math.
So…
How much does a Tour de France bike cost?
The average Tour de France bike price was 10,540 USD (~9,970 EUR, ~8,580 GBP, ~15,210 AUD) in 2020, 11,170 USD (~10,580 EUR, ~9100 GBP, ~16,150 AUD) in 2021, and 12,030 USD (~11,380 EUR, ~9800 GBP, ~17,370 AUD) in 2022.

A Few Words About This Research
When searching for the prices of the TdF road bikes, I faced multiple challenges:
- The bike prices vary depending on the bike specifications and components. Additionally, some teams use unique combinations that are not sold as a whole package to the end customer.
- Not all prices were available (e.g., on the manufacturers’ websites), and I had to use multiple sources.
- The prices of some bikes were not available in USD (the main currency used for this research), so I had to convert the price from different currencies. These conversions are based on the conversion rates of June 2022.
- The pricing of bikes is different in various regions.
- Teams usually get bikes available to the public the following year, roughly halfway through the season (during Grand Tours like Giro d’Italia or Tour de France).
This means that the overall results are slightly skewed, but I did my best to provide you with the most accurate answers.
